The big hooded gauges thing was a very Italian styling trait. The Alfa Romeo 156 has a neat modern interpretation of it. The ergonomics are terrible, but it looks and feels awesome.

Then just get the 1750GTV...
It was fairly common in the ‘60's. Easily fabricating both LHD and RHD this way. Lotus even made the design of their glovebox having the exact same form as the surroundings of the tacho- and speedometer for the Europa for instance.
